New Years Resolutions

It is the 3rd of January and just how many of you have kept to your resolutions?

Well when I link this to my twitter poll we will find out. (twitter poll at the bottom of this post)

I have, well let's correct that I had 3, I now have 2 left. The first was to cut out sugar all together, which I found impossible especially thanks to my love of a good cuppa of tea. But the keeping of number 2 and 3 I hope will more than make up for it.

2, be more active, stop taking the bus and the taxi when I could walk (this I will be logging here >>> link FAT BOY SLIMMING PAGE ) of the two most prolific things I do in my week, which is go to work and go to college I could save well over 15 pounds a week and walk around 20 miles a week at around 70 calories a mile burned that would be 1,400 calories a week extra burned.

My 3rd resolution though is to save money and that links in very well with the 2nd resolution as I squander lots of extra money on fares I need not spend and just walk, and the biggest killer of all spending money on sweets and junk food at work. So from now on I am not going to buy any food or drinks while at work. Simply take in a packed lunch, which is normally a portion from the night befores lunch as I need to cut down portions. and a pint glass so I can get water instead of fizzy drinks and sugary coffees from the vending machines.

So I will be putting £3 away a day from everyday I would have been in work (I work 4 days 2 x 8 hour shifts 2 x 12 hour shifts) so on average 18 days a month depending on the rota. so by not spending at work that has saved £54 a month

Next is the Bus fares and taxi fares. Currently I would get 2 taxis a week to work on average (£4 a ride, £8 a week, £32 a month) As for Buses I get on average 4 a week at £1.70 a ride which makes £6.80 a week rounded up to £28 a month

Lastly I am getting rid of a whim which is having a go on the lottery, we all play for that fantastical chance of having enough money to change our life forever, but isn't that as rare as someone finding you to say "You have inherited millions from a relation you never knew about" I probably spend £20 a month on the lottery which is just short of the £25 minimum prize you get which I haven't won for the past 3 months. So by not spending the money I have a mini win each month by just holding onto the money. £20 a month saved

So in total by doing 3 simple things, stop spending at work, walking instead of catching lifts, and not playing the lottery I would save in total £134 a month over a year that is £1,608 which is bloody spooky because the 16th August is my birthday....................

Now you need to ensure you see the rewards so for me I will on the 1st of the month put to one side, the £134, it should help me see the reward first and also if anything help me stop spending the money as I won't have ready access to it.

Over the coming months I will keep you updated as to how it goes and if I can find any other ways of saving money.

Now for a bit of music.
